Water situation: Influx of algae in raw water disrupts Sigatoka water supply

THE intermittent to no water supply of water currently experienced faced by Sigatoka residents is due to a sudden influx of algae in raw water being processed at the Matovo Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) says this contributes in low production of treated water feeding the Lawai Reservoir.

The affected areas include Olosara, Korotogo, Laselase village, Tulalevu, parts of Sigatoka Town, Rakirakilevu, Malaqereqere and Cuvu.

WAF says it’s engineers and technical teams are working around the clock to restore supply.

“Water carting trucks are on standby to service the affected areas during this disruption period.”

Meanwhile the Authority is kindly advising its customers residing in the areas above to use water wisely and to store water for their immediate needs during this temporary disruption period.
