THE Fiji National Rugby League received a massive $50,000 boost from the Fiji National Sports Commission towards the Melanesian Cup competition which kicks off in two weeks at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

FNRL acting chief executive officer Don Natabe said the sponsorship would go along way in overseeing the smooth operation of the tournament and catering for the logistics of participating teams.

“We are thankful to the government of the day and the Fiji National Sports Commission in aiding one of Fiji’s ever expanding national sports,” Natabe said.

Natabe said final preparations were in place and they were ready to see the Papua New Guinea 2019 Digicel Cup champions Lae Snax Tigers clash with 2019 Vodafone Cup champions Ravoravo Rabbitohs in their upcoming thriller on February 29 at Churchill Park.

“We are looking forward to a great competition and know it will be a step forward in taking rugby league in the Pacific to greater heights.”

The public will have an opportunity to see their Kaiviti Silktails in action for the first time as they take on 2019 Digicel Cup finalists Hela Wigmen rugby club.
