AN unplanned power outage that occurred this morning in Lautoka was due to Smak Works Limited tip truck breaking Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) overhead power lines at the Navutu Industrial area, Lautoka.

EFL acting Chief Executive Officer, Bobby Naimawi said the accident caused power disruption residents in the surrounding areas who are provided electricity supply via the Flour Mills feeder.

Mr Naimawi said EFL teams were able to isolate the incident area and restore power supply to most of the affected areas by 10:10am.

He said this unplanned power outage in Navutu industrial area is currently affecting the following customers: Nivis Motors, LONGRUN, NERITAK, NIRANJAN, Nasovata Village, Navutu Village, Part of Service Street, Part of Royal Palm Road, Inter Island Freight Services, Williams & Gosling and WAF Pumping Station

“EFL teams are currently in the process of repairing the broken power lines and weather permitting, it is an estimated that repairs would be completed by 3:00pm today, before power supply is normalized in the remaining affected areas,” Mr Naimawi said.

“EFL requests drivers to exercise caution while driving and manoeuvring vehicles to avoid causing damages to EFL assets resulting in power outages,” he said.

“EFL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused to all our valued customers due to this unplanned power outage which was beyond our control.”
