CRUSHING at the Lautoka mill has been extended until Saturday to crush remaining cane in the fields.

The mill was scheduled to terminate its 2019 season today, however, Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has confirmed it will operate for another three days.

“We have reviewed available cane figures to confirm what is left to harvest,” said FSC chief executive officer Graham Clark.

“We as well considered requests from growers for additional harvest time.”

Mr Clark said the Sugar Cane Growers Council and the Sugar Industry Tribunal had agreed to the extension.

“The conclusion reached is that last cane delivery be extended to Saturday, 14th December.”

On 5th December, Lautoka mill had 25,000 tonnes of cane remaining to be harvested and crushed. It is expected to crush 656,000 tonnes of cane.
