IN the commitment to progress rugby league in the nation to greater heights, the Fiji National Rugby League board is ready to deploy the league’s resources to readily assist the Kaiviti Silktails club for the New South Wales Rugby League 2020 Ron Massey Cup in Australia.
Approval to second the Vodafone Fiji Bati head coach Brandon Costin and Vodafone Cup players to represent in the Kaiviti Silktails club in the Australian based franchise.
“In other words this process is to allow the two entities FNRL and the Kaiviti Silktails to come together,” said acting FNRL chief executive officer Don Natabe.
“The Silktails will be the foundation for grooming our future Fiji Bati players.
“The granting of affiliation process to the Silktails club will enable its Vodafone Fiji Bati head coach to coach the side during the Ron Massey competition as well as transfer of players.”
The franchise concept largely supported by the Australian government speaks boldy about Fiji’s position to supply world-class athletes to professional international competitions.
“This is an area of strength for FNRL unlike any sport in Fiji and gives the more reason why FNRL should invest in preparing players for professional contracts.
The Silktails is one of those great platforms for players moving into professional contracts and breeding local Bati players and moving forward the FNRL aims to study players exported to Australia for rugby league contracts annually.”
