THE Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission will hold a meeting with the Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) soon to discuss the bus fare review application.

FCCC acting chief executive officer Senikavika Jiuta said the process was in its early stages.

“We will be conducting a meeting with the bus operators soon and we are in the early stages of our process,” Ms Jiuta said.

“FCCC is aware of our role as the statutory regulatory body so as soon as we finalise the outcome, then we will officially update the public through the media,” she said.

Earlier this week, the FBOA raised its concerns following the increase in fuel price as they continued to wait for the “long-delayed” decision on a bus fare review.

The FBOA had said that while the two cents increase in fuel price may not seem much, in terms of volume, each cent added up and had a huge financial impact on bus operators.

The price for diesel had increased from $1.85 to $1.87 a litre from December 1.

“Bus operators are still awaiting a determination from the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission on its bus fare review application,” it had stated.

Today, FBOA general secretary Rohit Latchan said they would comment after the meeting with FCCC.
