HOW can Government provide security to the Fijian people when its leaders are surrounded by security guards themselves.

This was the question posed by Opposition MP Jese Saukuru yesterday in Parliament.

He labelled the high number of security guards used by certain members of the FijiFirst Government as “ridiculous”.

Mr Saukuru said this could indicate that government ministers did not trust the very people who voted them into Parliament.

He asked if the people who voted them in were aware of the security bill.

“Ridiculous as it is, Government members on the other side of the House went on a campaign spree last year harnessing the votes of the Fijian people on the security plank.

“The question that I would like to ask at this juncture is how can you provide security to the Fijian people when you are walking in the security ring yourselves,” Mr Saukuru said.

Mr Saukuru challenged Government to reintroduce the bipartisan methodology of decision-making process in Parliament and work towards reuniting and rebuilding Fiji.
