THE Lau Seascape Strategy will be launched this Friday.

This has been confirmed by Roko Tui Lau Ratu Maikeli Waqatabu.

Mr Waqatabu said the 2018-2030 strategy is to ensure the natural resources in the province are protected.

“By 2025, the vanua of Lau should be prosperous and grounded in values of respect and collaborative participation to achieve the regenerate resource for future generations to overcome challenges,” he said.

He added that around 80 per cent of the Lau coral remained vibrant and healthy.

“Due to this, Lau’s reefs support complex and rich marine biodiversity composed endemic and undiscovered species, large migratory species such as humpback whales, manta rays, sharks and sea turtles which visit to breed.”

A four-day Lau Yaubula Workshop is underway in Suva to discuss the strategic plan.
