A FORMER Fiji resident has died in house fire in New Zealand yesterday.

The woman who was originally from Nausori had tried to get her mother-in-law out of the burning bedroom when she got trapped inside due to heavy smoke.

Assistant Area Commander for Counties Manukau, Craig Monrad, said the fire was predominately in a bedroom.

“That room was well involved, the fire had spread through the upper level of the house.”

Monrad said two people were still inside the building when they arrived.

“There were other family members there that had evacuated and raised the alarm or made aware to us that there was someone still inside. ”

One person was found in a serious condition and taken to Middlemore Hospital – along with two others who had moderate and minor injuries.
