THE Government’s free education grant initiative will continue, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
He also urged parents not to believe false rumours on social media about school fees.
“I urge you to stop listening to empty threats and unfounded lies, especially when it can undermine the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve,” he said.
“I assure you my friends, the free education grant has been an historic success for Fiji, and it is going nowhere.”
Mr Bainimarama said he was working hard to ensure that all Fijian students at every level, wherever they lived, were provided with learning environments that were conducive to their success, both inside the classroom and later in life.
He made the comments when he opened two teachers’ quarters in the Central Division on Monday.
The cost of the projects at one of the schools, Cautata District School in Tailevu, was pegged at $145,850.77.
“Each of these investments has shown my Government’s continued commitment to the education of our children and its invaluable role in our broader development as a nation.
“While these projects may seem small to some, I see the very large impact that they have on our communities and our people.”
