Report: Significant improvement in access to basic sanitation

EIGHTY-EIGHT per cent of schools in Fiji had access to basic drinking water services, 76 per cent to basic sanitation and 61 per cent to basic hygiene services in 2016.

This according to figures recently published in the Global Baseline Report of 2018 which was shared by Assistant Health Minister Alex O’Connor at a Global Hand Washing Day celebration in Lautoka this week.

“Recent monitoring data from Fiji’s Education Management Information System (FEMIS) indicates significant improvement in access to basic sanitation and hygiene services with 16 per cent increase for sanitation and 10 per cent in hygiene,” he said.
