THE week-long Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival held in Labasa raked in $101,980 in gross revenue.
Carnival committee chairman Satish Kumar said the revenue had been achieved because of people’s faith in the purpose of the carnival, which is fighting crime to create a safer North.
He thanked the huge crowd for supporting his committee and the work they had done over the past six years.
Acknowledging the challenges faced as chairman, Mr Kumar said such a situation would not deter him and his team from giving back to the community.
Funds raised over the past years, he said, had been used for the communities in the North, including the installation of CCTV cameras in Labasa Town.
The carnival had also funded a new vehicle for the police team at Wainikoro, Macuata.
Mr Kumar said plans had also been discussed to empower youths with various projects they had also assisted with in the past.
Digicel chief executive officer Mike Greig assured the people of Vanua Levu that his company would continue to support the annual event.
Knowing the benefits of the carnival, he said had motivated him and his team to stand by the carnival committee and help give back to the North.
