SOUTHERN Division police boxing team is ready for the challenge in next week’s annual Inter-formation Boxing Tournament which will be held at the Nasinu Police Mobile in Nasinu.
Twenty-three boxers will be representing the Southern Division Police team.
Team captain Pauliasi Ratu said the team had a tough month of preparation leading up to the competition and was hoping to leave no stones unturned.
“Our four months of preparation has been successful and we are all looking forward to getting into that ring to showcase what we have learnt for the past four months,” Ratu said.
“We have a few elite boxers in the squad and most of who have represented Fiji in international competitions so we are positive of a good outcome and good results at the end of next week.”
The team has had its fair share of challenges as majority of the 23-member squad were unemployed youths.
“There had been a lot of difficulties for us in terms of training and food when we camp together but we are thankful to the Pacific Harbour community for looking after us the past weeks that we have been in camp there. Also to our divisional police commander SSP Filipe Jitoko for releasing us to train and prepare for this inter-formation tournament. We have three female boxers in the team and that boosts our team in terms of involving the girls in as well.”
