ON World Humanitarian Day we pay tribute to humanitarian works who put themselves in harm’s way and commemorate those who have lost their lives while responding to crisis.

This was highlighted by the Deputy Australian High Commissioner to Fiji Anna Dorney while officiating at the world humanitarian day celebrations held in Tamavua today.

She said it was also an opportunity to reflect on communities who have been affected by natural disasters including those here in Fiji.

“The theme for the 2019 is Women Humanitarians, recognizing the important role women play in responding to crisis,” she said.

Country Director for Medical Services Pacific Ashna Shaleen said this was a day to dedicate and acknowledge the immense contribution women humanitarians have made over the years.

“Here today I am joined by many wonderful women from various non-government organizations and international organizations who have contributed their passion, perseverance , strength, sacrifice, expertise and leadership during the midst of crisis,” she said.
