Former teacher pleads not guilty

Listen to this article:

A FORMER teacher who allegedly abducted and raped a Year Six student pleaded not guilty to all the sexual related charges after it was read to him in court  today.

The teacher is charged with one count of rape, four counts of abduction and three counts of defilement.

The alleged incident took place between February 28 and March 12 this year at Nasinu in the Central Division.

State lawyer Lavenia Bogitini told the court that the accused and the complainant had admitted that they had consensual sexual intercourse.

Ms Bogitini said the charge was put as such because the student was below the age of 13 years.

She said the accused in his statement had said that he had sexual intercourse with the student twice out of the four separate incidences as stated by the complainant.

Bail has been extended for the accused and he is expected to re- appear before High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar on September 11.
