NADALA farmer Peniasi Keteiwai says finding a market remains one of the biggest challenges for Nadarivatu farmers.

He said selling their fresh produce to local markets was difficult and costly.

“Sometimes the cost would be so high that the farmer did not make a profit,” Mr Keteiwai said.

“When we find a new market, it is always a big relief for us.”

He said the new opportunity provided by the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) would open new markets for the Nadarivatu farmers.

“I think that it is a great program that will benefit us a lot because we will not have to worry about transport costs,” Mr Keteiwai said.

“All we have to worry about is producing more for the market.”

The purchase of fresh produce from farmers in major agriculture areas by the AMA was introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture earlier this week.

According to the ministry, the AMA will purchase and transport each produce from farmers growing produce, including rice, dalo, duruka and cow peas.
