COMPETITION has heated up in the Fiji National Rugby League’s Vodafone Cup competition as local players now eye a spot in Fiji’s team to next years New South Wales Ron Massey Cup in Australia.

“Intensity has picked up definitely as many players are now eyeing the bigger picture,” said FNRL acting chief executive officer Don Natabe.

“With a majority of developments ongoing at the moment, players in our rugby league club have furthered their understanding and now play a more disciplined game,” Natabe said.

Officials from the Fiji NSW Cup bid were in the country this week as they discussed the final conditions into the bid which had already been given the greenlight earlier this year.

“Officials were in the country this week to discuss the upcoming Ron Massey Cup and the pathway towards it.

“We expect to release a statement next week.”

Meanwhile, the Dee Cee’s Nadera Panthers beat a determined Blue Gas Police Sharks outfit 18-16 yesterday at the Fiji Police Force Academy ground in Nasova to remain top of the table going into next weeks quarter-finals.

The Vodafone Cup quarter-finals will be held next weekend Saturday, July 27, at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Final round results:

Reserve grade: Nadera Panthers 6-18 Police Sharks, Ravoravo Rabbitohs 20-0 Suva City Storm
