TEACHER’S of Buruwa Youth Memorial School and Nasesevia Secondary School in Ba had a reason to celebrate on Monday this week as they received their new quarters from the Australian Government and the Education Ministry.
Officiating at the handover Australian High Commissioner John Feakes said the project would benefit 106 teachers and 1,454 students.
Mr Feakes said this initiative built on Government’s program of assistance aimed at helping those affected by natural disasters – an initiative which was supported by the Australian Government.
Also speaking at the handover education minister Rosy Akbar said in addition to the repairs to six TC Josie affected schools, 22 schools in rural and remote parts of Fiji have received internet modems, allowing teachers to stay connected with the ministry and further upgrade their skills online.
“Years 1 – 4 teachers have been successfully trained on literacy and numeracy strategies and an additional 36 teachers are currently being trained in Counselling to provide better support to students,” Ms Akbar added.
The project also included a six-foot wide and four-foot deep drainage system, which was dug around the school and the teachers’ compound to lower the impact of future flooding.
