Lifeline Fiji: Increasing number of calls poses serious concern

THE burden of failing to meet the high expectations from parents could lead children into suicidal thoughts, said Lifeline Fiji officer-in-charge Jeremiah Merekula.

He said 19 out of the calls received in April this year were suicidal issues.

For the month of June alone, they recorded more than 230 calls.

Mr Merekula said the increasing number of calls recorded by the NGO every month was a serious concern.

He said they were working with other relevant organisations in assisting troubled children.

“Parents need to provide a safe environment for their children at home,” Mr Merekula said.
