WITH the Ministry of Health and Medical Services successfully containing the Meningococcal outbreak at the Navesau Adventist church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fiji is now shifting its attention to combating non-communicable diseases.
SDA Fiji general secretary Pastor Joe Talemaitoga said with NCD related illnesses regarded as a number one killer in the country, the church was expecting the 2018/2019 budget to be focused on raising awareness on NCDs.
“Meningococcal has been contained, thanks to Government, and the changes we have made to our hygiene and sanitation at the school,” he said.
“What we as a church are really looking forward to is support by Government in our fight against NCDs, that is the focus of the church right now.” said.
He said the church had programs and strategies in place, and was looking forward to working with the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services was allocated $321.3million in the 2017/2018 budget, of which $251.6m was for operating expenditure, $57.7m for capital expenditure, and $13m for VAT.
