NADROGA rugby head trainer the late Nimilote Dau was laid to rest today at his village in Rukurukulevu in Nadroga.
Thousands of people were present at the funeral including FRU officials, Flying Fijians coach John McKee and many former and current rugby national and provincial representatives that were there to pay their final respects.
Dau’s relative Joe Kunaluvea said his cousin’s lifestyle was something that many missed especially to his families and the provincial team because he always put everything first before him.
“When Nadroga wins, we hardly see him (Dau) in the group picture with the boys and when needed for an interview he prefers the coach and that shows how he respects others and humbles himself and prefer to be unknown and let the players enjoy the limelight because they own it and that’s what he always say when we asked him,” said Kunaluvea.
“He has made a lot of people in Nadroga proud of their provincial team and the people of Rukurukulevu village are proud of him and what he has achieved.
Dau’s legacy lives with the Nadroga rugby team, Cuvu College rugby and he was also part of ACS success in the Coca-Cola games training them at the sand dunes.
He was described by people who knew him as a humble person who loved his job as a trainer and grooming players to be the best in the field.
Dau is survived by his wife and his son John Vuki who plays rugby league in Australia.
