THE Vodafone Fiji FACT and Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants could be extended to three weekends to get the tournaments closer to the fans of the teams which qualify for the eliminations.

The group stage of the 2019 Vodafone Fiji FACT attracted an average crowd at Churchill Park in Lautoka which the Fiji Football Association chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, was happy with.

A bumper crowd turned up for the semi-finals at Churchill Park last Saturday which featured three western giants; Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, together with Suva.

However, less than 1000 spectators turned to witness the third and fourth place playoff between Ba and Lautoka on Sunday.

There were empty seats in both the pavilions and the embankment was vastly empty.

Yusuf said Nadi was the only team to reach the final, so they expected the crowd to be less.

“We had a good turnout during the semi-finals,” he said.

“There are few other plans for the BOG and Fiji FACT. There are options in front of the board which we will discuss. For these two tournaments, we may make it a three-weekend event by taking the game to the people. That is an option.

“The Inter-District Championship we cannot prolong because there are many overseas visitors.”

The Fiji FA Veterans Championship will be held in Nausori from August 1-4 before the BOG.

Yusuf said there were no positive results recorded in the doping tests during the semi-finals.

Nadi won the Fiji FACT after beating Suva in the final.
