THE Fiji Taxi Association is pleading with permit lottery winners to return their permits if they did not meet the eligibility requirements.

FTA president Raben Singh said the association was working closely with the Land Transport Authority and Fiji Police Force to identify those who did not meet the criteria.

“This was one of the issues that was brought up by our drivers and we agree that only those that deserve the permits should have it. When people were applying for the permits there were clear instructions that only people who earned less than $20,000 were supposed to get the permits.

“But we have found that some of those who earned more than that got them.

“So we are again urging them to return the permits. If they don’t then we will come down hard on them.”

He added that the association was also doing its bit in addressing illegal taxi operations in Nadi and Lautoka.

“We are working with LTA and police on this.”
