Nasau villagers in Ra anticipate opening of new Savusavu crossing

VILLAGERS in Nasau, Ra, are looking forward to the completion of the construction of the new Savusavu crossing.

The access way provides a link to more than 20 villages in the district of Nasau and Saivou.

Nasau district spokesman Meli Tokalau said with the recent heavy downpours, villagers were looking forward to using the new bridge.

“Every time it rains, we have to look at alternative ways to cross the Wainimala river,” Mr Tokalau said.

“If we don’t use other alternative means, we will be stranded.”

He said the bridge would bring relief to many.

“The struggle we go through will end with the new bridge.

“Everyone is looking forward to seeing it open because we will not have to cross flooded rivers in our vehicles or wait for the rain to stop.”

According to the Fiji Roads Authority, the Savusavu crossing was one of the 15 crossings that were flooded in Ra earlier this week.
