A GUN was found in the room where a couple were found motionless yesterday morning.
Police confirmed yesterday that they had sought technical advice from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) after the discovery of the firearm at the scene of the crime.
The elderly couple were found dead in their home at Naqumu St in Lami early yesterday by their son.
They were alleged to have had visible injuries on their bodies.
However, initial information gathered by police after their investigation yesterday indicated an alleged murder suicide case.
“This is all subject to the outcome of investigations, however, credible information gathered so far from the victims’ family indicates the strong possibility of the case being classified as so,” police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said.
“However, we must stress that the case will only be classified after the post-mortem examination and once investigators gather necessary expertise statements from relevant professionals.”
Meanwhile, Isikeli Ratu, who has been a security officer at a property along the said street, said the small Lami community was still shocked about what transpired.
“We didn’t know something had happened until we saw police vehicles going past and a large group of police officers gathered in front of their (couple’s) house,” Mr Ratu said.
“I have been a security officer here for 13 years and this is the first time this has happened. This is the first time something like this has happened here and we are shocked.”
Police investigations are continuing.
