STUDENTS today observed samples of the Wolbachia mosquito that will soon be released into hotspots in Lautoka.

The project implemented by the World Mosquitoe Program was first launched in the Central Division.

The initiative was launched in the Western Division by Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete who praised the efforts of the WMP for introducing the groundbreaking initiative in Fiji.

The Wolbachia mosquito is a breed of insects anticipated to eradicate mosquitoes-carrying diseases such as dengue fever and Zika.
