NATIONAL Federation Party (NFP) leader Prof Biman Prasad has clarified that he was only invited to speak as an expert by the Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Prof Prasad spoke at an Opposition workshop for members of Parliament from the Social Democratic Liberal Party on Monday. He said the workshop was focused on the budget and he was invited by Ro Teimumu to speak as an expert at the workshop.

“That was a pre-budget workshop for SODELPA MPs and I was invited by the Leader of Opposition to make a presentation as an expert so that’s what I did,” he said.

“We are in the Opposition, part of the Opposition and once the Leader of Opposition invites me to speak as an expert, what is the problem with that?”

He said certain claims made against him for meeting the SODELPA delegation in the Opposition were “mischievous”.

Prof Prasad said his participation at the workshop was something similar to the recent meeting of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka during the PM’s visit to Mr Rabuka’s village in Cakaudrove.

“Their meeting doesn’t mean that Rabuka and Bainimarama are in coalition,” he said.

Meanwhile, NFP recently said the party has been well advance in their planning for this year’s general election although the polling date has not been released.

Prof Prasad had said the party had always known that the election would be held anytime between May and November which was why they have been thoroughly preparing for it.
