MORE than 50 participants from the aged-care industry were part of a workshop conducted by the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) in collaboration with the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Friday.

The workshop themed ‘Let’s break the silence’ was held at the Golden Age Home in Lautoka and primarily focused on raising awareness on abuse of the elderly.

Speaking at the event, Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa said that caregiving was the bedrock of health and social systems worldwide.

She said the partnership with APTC would bring to reality the vision of better caregiving services for older persons in homes and in communities.
