SAINT Luke is the new champion of the Gospel High School inter-house competition after winning 33 gold medals, 22 silver and 30 bronze medals.
St Luke house pipped champion St John house which won 28 gold, 27 silver and 20 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, more than 1000 people gathered at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday to witness an exciting event of the Gospel High and Gospel School for Deaf inter-house competition.
Compared with previous years of low turnout of families and friends to the inter-house competition, the GHS athletics meet for 2019 attracted more than 1000 students and fans to support their loved ones compete at the ANZ Stadium.
School teacher Semi Underwood said they felt this year would be a good year for the school activities looking at the crowd that showed up to the inter-house.
“From the previous years, we’ve never seen as many support as we have today (yesterday), and this has boosted the morale of the athletes seeing their families cheer for them during the race and this shows that the development of an athlete is in good hands because it’s starting from home,” said Underwood.
Defending champion St John fell short of winning the overall tally this year as St Luke burbed the track with 33 gold medal, 22 silver and 30 bronze.
St John had to settle for silver with 28 gold, 27 silver and 20 bronze.
St Mathew came third with 16 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze, St Mark were able to scoop 14 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze while St Paul took out a gold, silver and a bronze in yesterday’s athletics meet.
Meanwhile, St Luke won the overall girls and boys title. The teachers will analyse the results this week before their team to the Suva zone two is selected.
