BIOSECURITY Authority of Fiji CEO Hillary Kumwenda believes that spouses and children of public office holders should not be scrutinised under the Code of Conduct Bill.

While making submissions on the Bill before the Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights in Parliament this morning, Mr Kumwenda said their concern was the disclosing of statement of income, assets and liabilities of officers for their spouse and children if a public office holder was being investigated for alleged corruption practices.

“Our main concern is that the spouse and children aren’t the public office holders yet the information private to them will be required to be disclosed by law,” he said.

If the Bill is enacted, it provides that the accountability and transparency commission ensures that all public office holders are held accountable to ensure they declare their interests on an annual basis.
