Fiji Football Association has shown its commitment towards the development of futsal in the country after reviving the futsal league at district level.
The association launched the Vodafone Central Futsal League last Tuesday at the Fiji FA Headquarters in Vatuwaqa.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said it was indeed a great moment for Fiji FA to revive the futsal league at district level.
“We had anticipated that we want to do it in a professional manner so that we can enhance this code where we can select the best players to represent for the country in future,” Patel said.
Patel agreed that in the past Fiji FA would just hand pick players and would participate in the OFC futsal competition.
‘Before when Fiji FA entered the OFC futsal championship, we used to select player and participate without any formal training and proper coaching and this is where money is not well spent,” said Patel.
“With Vodafone as the partner and best supporter for football in this country we believe this is the right time to launch it while the districts are putting their effort in and we will kick start with the Central Zone and move on to other districts soon.”
Patel said futsal code was very skillful code and that was where the best players comes out.
“It is played in short sided field with different ball size and weight where the ball control is very important which enhance the players to develop more with their skills,” he said.
Patel acknowledged the hardwork put in by the Fiji futsal development officer Ronald Ram and national coach Mira Sahib.
“I must applaud the hardwork put in by Ram and Sahib in reviving the futsal and soon the will moving around the country to set up futsal league slowly, “Patel said.
The Vodafone Central Futsal League was scheduled to be played last Tuesday but was postponed due to adverse weather.
