PERMANENT secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Maritino Nemani has noted the need for the people of Fiji to support the Team Fiji contingent to the 2019 Pacific Games to Apia, Samoa.

“Sports play an important role in our country. It not only keeps a particular individual fit but instils values in a person to be a greater being,” Nemani said.

“This is why it is important for us as the people of Fiji and corporate bodies to support the team into reaching new heights.”

Mr Nemani was present at the Team Fiji lottery launch among corporate sponsors and athletes to the 2019 Pacific Games.

He said the Government had set aside $800,000 towards the preparation of the national sporting federations.

“The Fiji Government has $800,000 in the national budget for the preparation of the teams.

“This is a true reflection of the commitment that the government is giving to develop sports in the country,” he said.
