Listen to this article:

THE accumulated cases of HIV reported in Fiji stands at 919 as of July this year, with more than 80 cases diagnosed a year since 2015.

This statistic was released by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Iferemi Waqainabete, while addressing members of the public on World AIDS Day at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva today.

“This increase is a result of the decentralised services that Fiji initiated in 2015, where all sub-divisional hospitals starting confirming their own cases,” he said.

Dr Waqainabete said HIV had affected a range of people and that around 80 per cent of youths age ranged between 20-39 who were affected.
