APART from celebrating their academic achievements during their annual prize-giving ceremony, students of Saint Augustine Public School in Labasa had a reason to smile as they launched their new school monogram.
Officiating at the launch and the prize-giving ceremony at the school yesterday, chief guest and National Substance Abuse Advisory Council’s (NSAAC) health adviser Josua Naisele said the launch was a show of the school’s renewed intentions for the future.
Speaking to students, Mr Naisele said everyone was a winner in education even though not all students received prizes yesterday.
Mr Naisele urged children to continue pushing and moving forward towards their dreams, reminding them that they would be faced with a lot of obstacles such as peer pressure, drug abuse and other criminal activities.
“Keep God first in your life, acknowledge the sacrifices of your parents and families and focus on your education so that you can ensure a brighter future and also that of your loved ones,” he told children.
Mr Naisele also reminded parents about their duty to care for their young ones during the school break.
“Spend quality time with your children and watch over them, ensuring they are out of harm’s way during the school break,” he urged parents.
“If your child has failed their examination or subject, support them and please refrain from criticising or judging them.
“Communicate with your children, listen to them and learn to know them better.”
Other schools that also had their prize-giving ceremonies in Labasa yesterday included Bethel Primary School, Saint Mary’s Primary School, Holy Family Primary School and Labasa Sangam SKM College.
