THE tracks and stage is set for the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association (FPSAA) FMF National Chow Games to begin today at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva.

FPSSA general secretary Patrick Bower said the competition was not only for student participation in athletics but had significance in the lives of the students who would take part.

“We are excited as this event is not only for student participation but to also help instil values in the young students,” Bower said.

“This is like a character building program for the students as they compete in their various events to be the best for the two days.” The two divisions participating in the national finals are the Central and the Western divisions. Alongside the two divisions, an international team will also be part of the two day event.

“We are happy to have the inclusion of a team from Wallis and Futuna which arrived into the country earlier this week,” Bower said.

“There are about 1200 competitors representing Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, Serua-Namosi to the competition.

“We have a good representation and the children are excited about the possibilities for tomorrow (today),” said Bower.

The national finals is moving to the ANZ Stadium after a lapse of four years and is expected to run smoothly.

“We were able to host the national finals after four years and most of these athletes will be experiencing it for the first time.

“Having heard of the successful finals in Taveuni last week, we are looking forward to a better performance tomorrow (today) and Saturday,” said Bower.
