FIJI’S 2018/2019 National Budget will be announced on Thursday, June 28, instead of June 22 as announced earlier by Government.
This follows the ruling by Speaker Dr Jiko Luveni via an advisory sent today confirming the date and time of the address at 7.30 pm.
“Pursuant to Standing Order 99(3), the Members of Parliament are given a week to examine and prepare responses to the Budget,” the advisory stated.
“In that respect, the budget debates will be held from Monday, July 9, to Friday, July 13, 2018.”
Meanwhile, consultations with government ministries, departments and entities had commenced last weekend as the Ministry of Economy initiates preparations for the 2018-2019 National Budget.
Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, who is expected to deliver the budget address, said this budget would be like all of the others under the FijiFirst Government – totally focused on the prudent management and growth of the Fijian economy.
“It will also be people-focused, as all of our budgets have been, especially assisting the vulnerable members of our society,” he said in an earlier statement issued this week.
