A NEW-LOOK Nadi International Airport was officially opened by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama last night. Business and tourism stakeholders present yesterday hailed the multi-million dollar initiative as momentous and a boost to the Fijian economy.

According to Mr Bainimarama, Nadi International Airport has been Fiji’s gateway to the world for over 80 years. He said the growing tourism industry had constantly sparked a demand for better facilities.

Mr Bainimarama said all Fijians could be proud of the new and revamped facilities and Fiji was on track to welcome over two million visitors this year.

Fiji Airports executive chairman Faiz Khan said the project had its share of challenges over the years, however, stakeholder collaboration had helped solve such issues.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the project was being carried out while the airport was still being used.
