Teenager jailed to four years for aggravated robbery

AN 18-year-old boy has been sentenced to four years and five months imprisonment after he was convicted of one count of aggravated robbery.

The court was informed that on June 18 this year, Tevita Seniceva stole a handbag valued at $70, a wallet valued at $35, a gold chain valued at $500, a gold ring valued at $250, a pair of gold earrings valued at $120, one eye glasses valued at $300, one Samsung mobile phone valued at $349, assorted cards and a bunch of keys.

The incident took place in Tacirua and the complainant was a 46-year-old woman.

In passing sentence yesterday, High Court judge Justice Vinsent Perera said the sentence was designed in a way to punish offenders to an extent and in a manner which was just in all the circumstances and to protect the community from offenders.

Seniceva will be eligible for parole after serving one year and nine months behind bars.
