ABOUT 100,000 people have downloaded the Walesi mobile phone application and registered their details to watch television on their cellular devices.
This was the word from Acting Prime Minister, Attorney-General and Minister for Communications Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. He made the comment while launching the free WiFi hots pots at Koroivolu Park, Nadi, yesterday.
“On your smart phone you can not only get internet services with fast speed but broader bandwidth and you can also watch television on your mobile phone by downloading the Walesi app,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
The Acting PM added that Government had allocated $40 million in the 2018-2019 budget to ensure every Fijian had access to internet services.
“We are doing so you can not only have access to internet for your leisure and downloading and uploading content but the idea also is for you to be able to be able to access information and government services.
“Many of the services will now be made available over the internet.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said establishing WiFi hotspots around the country was being done to give ordinary Fijians safe spaces to access the internet.
The Koroivolu Park WiFi hots pots covers the park area, Nadi Bus Station and, in two weeks’ time, the whole of the Nadi Municipal Market area.
