INVALID votes could be reduced by the ‘Know Your Election Awareness Drive’.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said this during the launch of the second round of ‘Know Your Election Awareness Drive’ earlier today.

He has also urged members of the public who are yet to update their voter identification cards to have it done before the writ is issued.

Meanwhile, Electoral Commission chairperson Suresh Chandra said their aim was to also lower the percentage of invalid voters in this year’s general
elections from the 0.75 per cent they had recorded in the last election.

“We expect to lower the percentage at the conclusion of the General 2018 general elections and it is an achievable target considering the amount of awareness we are conducting through various means,” he said.
