INSPIRED by nature in Sigatoka, two male designers came out to show their collections at the Fiji Fashion Week (FFW) Student Designer Show at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva today.
Mohammed Ali and Jone Foraete who are current Year 13 students at Sigatoka Methodist College were part of the 30 young designers who brought out their collection onto the runway today.
While Jone is not a new face to the fashion show, this was the first fashion show for Mohammed.
Jone’s designs were inspired by a teacher from the school who had given a speech one day where she compared the school to the different flowers, whereas Mohammed’s designs were inspired by the Sigatoka Sand Dunes.
Jone said he had looked up the different purple flowers and had taken certain parts of it like how the flowers drape.
Mohammed said his designs reflected how the many sharp objects reflected the sunshine.
“My designs were inspired by the Sigatoka Sand Dunes because from afar, it shows many sharp objects which reflect the sunshine and that is why I have used mirror works and a little bit of embroidery just because it indicates the roughness and the sweetness of the sand,” he said.
Tonight, at the FFW will be the Resort Luxe Show where evening resort collections will be showcased by the different talented designers.
The show will commence at 6pm at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
