PORT MORESBY – Eight men on death row in Papua New Guinea — including one still at large after escaping from Bomana prison — will have to wait longer for a decision on their execution, it has been revealed.

JAKARTA – The United Nations high commissioner for human rights said on Wednesday that he would send a mission to Indonesia’s province of Papua, following reports of abuses against its indigenous population. “I am also concerned about reports of excessive use of force by security forces, harassment, arbitrary arrests and detentions in Papua,” Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein told reporters in Jakarta during his three-day visit to Indonesia.

Search continues

APIA – A search continues in American Samoa for two prison escapees who broke out from the territorial Correctional Facility on Sunday night. The Commissioner of Public Safety Le’i Sonny Thompson said the search for Joe Togitogi and Iosefa Iosua had been concentrated in the Tuala uta district based on leads from the public.
