UTILITY Teri Tamani is a future asset for the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team, says head coach Gareth Baber, as the team broke camp after an intense week of training at the Uprising Beach Resort ground in Pacific Harbour, Navua yesterday.

Tamani, 22, had been knocking on the national team door for the past couple of years until he was selected by Baber after he scored the winning try for Tabadamu against Police Blues 17-12 to win the Marist 7s final.

Tamani was part of the Singapore 7s team where he showed glimpses of his skills.

“He is a young kid who has come into the 7s program because of his display of skills in the domestic tournaments here in Fiji,” Baber said. “Teri needs time and space to develop, he needs time to make mistakes and he needs time to show everybody exactly what we want to see in training and he is incredibly fit.”

“He is a very humble kid who just wants to get on and represent his country and he has got exceptional skills as he can play at half back, rover or playmaker’s position.”
