Party to announce provisional candidates

THE Fiji Labour Party (FLP) will be announcing the names of its first batch of 20 provisional candidates today, as the party steps up preparations for the upcoming general election. The announcement of the candidates was initially planned for early last month, but was deferred twice because of the recent cyclones and floods that struck the country causing widespread damage and loss of lives in the Western Division.

The party earlier said Fijians should expect a good mix of people from the party’s line-up for the upcoming polls, saying it would include more youths and women.

FLP leader Mahendra Chaudhry earlier told this newspaper that the party would resurge again this year and would come back hard and strong for this year’s poll.

He confirmed that today’s candidate announcement would also include a briefing session for its provisional candidates on campaign issues and the party’s policies on
major issues of concern to the people.

The party will also be launching its social package for the general election as well.

The announcement will be held at the Wesley Methodist Church Hall at Butt St in Suva.
