Early morning quake, no tsunami threat

A 7.5 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Fiji region early this morning.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department in Suva confirmed this seismic activity that occurred at 3.49am at a depth of 664km.

The earthquake was located 38 kilometres South West of Maloku village in Moala Island in Lau.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources Department in Suva has stated that that earthquake did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.

The department stated that the offshore quake was recorded at a depth of 664 kilometres.
