A NADI man has been sentenced to six years in jail after he was convicted of raping and sexually assaulting a pregnant woman in 2013.
The 29-year-old was found guilty of raping the woman while she was alone at home.
In sentencing, Justice Aruna Aluthge said the victim was three months pregnant when she was raped by the accused.
Justice Aluthge said he forced himself on to the victim who was alone at home after her husband had left for work on January 16. He said the offence of rape was prevalent in Fiji.
Justice Aluthge added that the sentence on the accused was to send out a clear message to the public that no such actions would be tolerated by the courts.
