Fiji cricket team defeats Samoa by 9 runs

THE Fiji cricket side defeated Samoa by nine runs at the ICC World T20 EAP qualifier in Suva today.

In a closely contested encounter, Fiji batted first and scored 139 runs in 20 overs at a loss of eight wickets.

Fiji’s Peni Vuniwaqa was the top scorer with 27 runs while Kitione Tavo and Tukana Tavo took four wickets each.

Samoa could only manage 130 runs in 20 overs losing seven wickets.

This was Fiji’s second win having earlier defeated Vanuatu by three wickets.

The home side lost by 75 runs to PNG.

Meanwhile, in another match today, PNG thumped Vanuatu by 81 runs.

In tomorrow’s matches, Fiji plays Vanuatu at 9.30am while at the same time, Samoa will be playing PNG.
