ONE of Fiji’s premier group of hotels and resorts have taken a step forward in protecting the environment by banning plastic straws across all their properties.
Raffe Hotels and Resorts today announced that the plastic straw ban will come into effect on Fiji Day, October 10, 2018.
The group owns and manages three iconic properties in Fiji – Plantation Island Resort, Lomani Island Resort and Fiji Gateway Hotel (previously Raffles Gateway Hotel).
All three properties in the group will be replacing plastic straws with paper straws and will only offer straws to guests on a request basis.
Guests at all three properties will be encouraged to “say no to straws” and avoid straw use where possible.
Raffe Hotels & Resorts director of sales, marketing and strategic development Akshay Singh said they remained committed to not only banning plastic straws, but minimising straw use altogether.
“We are incredibly proud of this upcoming milestone,” Mr Singh said.
“We can no longer stand on the sidelines and watch the destruction of our oceans, we are determined to become leaders in the fight against single use plastics.
“By banning the use of plastic straws at our resorts, we are demonstrating our corporate responsibility to the region and the oceans we rely so heavily on.”
Plantation Island Resort banned all plastic shopping bags at the Resort in October 2017 and provided all guests and staff with re-usable shopping bags to use during their time on Malolo Lailai Island.
Raffe Hotels & Resorts will be announcing more environmental protection milestones later this year and in 2019.
