THE platform for a diverse range of stakeholders to come together to discuss Pacific waste issues will once again be held this month in Suva.
The Clean Pacific Roundtable (CPRT) will have stakeholders strive for solutions and actions to meet the requirements outlined in the Pacific Regional Waste and Pollution Management Strategy 2016 – 2025.
A statement issued by the Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific says the CPRT enables the monitoring and evaluation of the Pacific Regional Waste and Pollution Management Strategy 2016 – 2025, a comprehensive blueprint to help improve the management of waste and pollution over a 10-year period.
“Also known as the Cleaner Pacific Strategy, it focuses on strengthening institutional capacity, promotion of public-private partnerships, implementation of sustainable best practices, development of human capacity, dissemination of outcomes and experiences, and promotion of regional and national cooperation,” the statement said.
Held every two years, the inaugural CPRT was held in 2016 resulting in an Outcomes Statement reinforcing actions and agreements to progress the agenda on waste and pollution management by all parties.
The 2018 Clean Pacific Roundtable (CPRT) will:
– Enable the monitoring and progress reporting of Cleaner Pacific 2025;
– Facilitate dialogue and networking in the region on waste issues and initiatives and explore additional investments and funding opportunities towards a safer and sustainable waste management systems; and
– Coordinate donor mechanisms in the region and optimise use of investment and funding allocation for the waste and pollution sector.
This year, the second Clean Pacific Roundtable will be held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Conference Room in Suva, Fiji from August 20 – 22 with associated events until August 25, 2018. It is led by key partners and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the European Union.
It is facilitated by an ad hoc Organising Committee with coordination and support from the SPREP and the J-PRISM II Project Office.
