51 new law practitioners reminded of their role

FIFTY-ONE new lawyers admitted to Bar this today by Chief Justice Kamal Kumar were reminded of their role as lawyers in assisting court.

“You as lawyers play a vital role in our legal system and that is not to be taken lightly. You will be called upon to defend and protect the rights of all individuals under our constitution and international laws. You will be called upon to make decision which in fact will impact people’s lives,” Justice Kumar said.

“You as a lawyer should not knowingly deceive or mislead the court. You as lawyer should act with due courtesy to avoid unnecessary expense. When dealing with other lawyers, you should treat them with courtesy and fairness,” he said.

Justice Kumar also reminded the newly admitted lawyers that hard work and commitment is crucial in every aspects.

“Almost anyone has the capacity to become a lawyer but not all can be a successful practitioner. You need to be hardworking, committed and dedicated in all respects,” he said.

“As you progress in your life, as a lawyer it is always advisable to look back at your life and thank the hard work you’ve done and the sacrifices made along the way made by you and your loved ones.”
